†¢ How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping? Stereotypes involve generalizations about the certain characteristics of people in groups. Some examples is saying that women are bad drivers or that they need to stay in the home. Discrimination is a reaction that is either positive or negative actions toward the objects of prejudice. An example is when someone states that they do not want a particular race to enter their club and because of this statement a person discriminating will react a certain way with that race if they were to want join. Prejudice is the act of judging someone or a group of people without having any prior knowledge of their personal selves. An example is assuming that because someone is of a different race than you that wouldn’t be acceptable to hire. All of these actions feed off of one another which had caused so many problems everywhere. These problems stem from past actions that we are still trying to correct today. †¢ What are the causes of discrimination? One cause is culture to culture. Some cultures do not want other races coming in and messing with their women. They do not want the blood lines to mix. Also some cultures do not want others to come in and try and take over or change their ways which why some do not like Americans. Another cause is people being stuck in one era especially when it comes to women. These days most women don’t want to stay home. They need to work to provide and since it seems sometimes the roles have switched with men staying home they feel that have to take care of everything. Another cause is racial. One cannot assume that because one person of a culture or race follows in the same category as the rest of their race. These days there are a lot of cultures and race that have crossed over still holding on to their heritage but venturing out to know and understand others. In understanding other races a trace of it stays with you leaving you a little changed †¢ How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different? Discrimination against race is when you take a look at one race on a whole and assume by either prejudice or stereotyping that every one is the same. All black people sag their pants, all white people are rich and all Chinese people are smart just to name a few. Then there is discrimination against gender. There are still men today who believe that women need to stay at home. It seems, though, that men are taking care of their families less than they used to like long ago so women have no choice but to get up and do what women need to do in order to take care of their families. There are many cases where women advance faster than men and men tend to discriminate because they are intimidated. In some cases women aren’t looked at as someone who can be an asset to the company and that they have to hire them because minority rules.

Joseph Pulitzer Joseph Pulitzer was born April 10, 1847 he died October 29, 1911 Joseph was from Mako, Hungary he immigrated to the U. S. in 1864 then he moved to St. Louis . After Joseph’s father died his business went bankrupt and his family became pour. When he was seventeen years old he attempted to join the Austrian army, the British Army, and the Napoleon's Foreign Legion but had gotten denied because of his bad eyesight and poor health. Pulitzer came to serve in the American Civil War in the Lincoln Calvary from 1864-1865.Then he worked his way up to St. Louis, Missouri he only went there because of the German population, since he spoke perfect German and French but had a hard time with English. Joseph Pulitzer was really energetic, wild about seeking fame he was brilliant and independent. Since Joseph was really rich he was able to go to private schools and be tutored by private tutors. While Joseph was in chess he caught attention of the editor of a local German langu age newspaper after they had a conversation Pulitzer then ended up having a journalism job for the Westliche Post.Four years later he had been a hard working reporter with the owners that were having a problems with not selling a lot of newspapers he was also offered a big interest. In the newspaper which he sold about 30, 00 dollars profit and gave the owners there profit. Before he was a journalist he worked as a Mule tender, waiter, and hack driver and for several lawyers. Later in that year he became the owner of a newspaper at St. Louis Post-Dispatch he gained a big success under his leadership but also he earned himself a fortune in the years later.Pulitzer increased the subscription of the world by a rate of 15,000 to over 600,000 making it the largest newspaper read in the country. Pultizer was nominated for the state legislature by the Republicans in 1969, and won. Now he was an American Citizen, a speaker, writer, and editor and mastered English extremely well. Yellow Jour nalism – came from a popular New York World comic calls â€Å"Hogan‘s Alley† which featured a yellow-dressed character. Some dramatic event happened during the 1890s United States went war with Spain led by the newspaper owners William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer.They used romance and hyperbole to sell millions of newspapers as they say called yellow journalism. This battle went from 1895 to about 1898 Joseph went crazy on making the New York World newspaper he made it filled with pictures, games and contests and new readers got interested but most of all crime stories were filled with many pages since he was trying to get a lot of readers he only sold the newspapers for two cents ,but he sometimes gave the readers eight to twelve pages of information.In 1872 Joseph created his first newspaper he had made a profit of about 3 million dollars. In 1883 when Joseph was thirty six years old and won over New York World newspaper and was qualified the principles that led to success also with his St. Louis paper. By 1898 was selling 15 million copies a day Pulitzer created the modern newspaper he caught the democrat's eye. Pulitzer changed the way Americans saw the newspaper he created a certain way that other newspapers didn’t . Pulitzer paid his reporters high salaries but expected and demanded hard work from them.He used illustrations and cartoons to attract the readers he began to start including a lot of drawings for the children a lot of pages that give color and something for the kids to look at it he called it â€Å"Sunday Funnies†. Pulitzer was the master of detailing stories about crime, sex, and disaster. He always had his reporters using bold headlines, illustrious and diagrams for the murder scenes Pulitzer was one of those people that a successful newspaper had to entertain as well telling the truth and listing the facts.Joseph had gotten married in 1878 to Katie Davis at the Protestant Episcopal Church. Joseph a nd Katie have seven kids Joseph was a difficult husband and living with him was hard because he had emotional problems. He was knows as a distant parent never was a really good father and wasn’t there for his children. Joseph spent most of his time away from his family traveling a lot of places then he lived close to his yacht called the Liberty. Pulitzer had a lot of medical issues with him like asthma, diabetes, insomnia, chronic exhaustion, and manic depression.In 1889 he had become blind then October 29, 1911 at age 64 Joseph Pulitzer died because of a heart attack while he was aboard on his yacht in New York Harbor. My opinion about Joseph Pulitzer is a really hard worker and he tried hard in life to be successful never really toke brakes. He was really obsessed with his work didn’t really know a lot about how to be a father or husband he had a lot of problems but never tried to fix them because he cared about the money.He did so much to get to where he is today n ever really cared about family didn’t have anybody else but family. He wasn’t close to people nor did he have a lot of friends but where he was before and now really successful and brilliant the best journalist that has ever lived with the work he did amazingly creative. He knew how to get people’s attention in a way other newspapers didn’t seeing everything from America’s point of view Pulitzer had a marvelous talent nothing let him give up or quite.After Pulitzer was getting old and tired his focus was on creating a journalism school give some money to build it, in 1912 Columbia University accepted its first class in the school of Journalism but also the money he gave 2million dollars that was given was used for annual prizes to journalist and writers. The first one was given in 1917 but Pulitzer being dead he couldn’t see how the university he created was helpful and successful. The Pulitzer Prize is given every year to honor achievements in journalism, literature, and music Pulitzer also gave traveling scholarships.

In this essay I will try to answer this question from the point of the story The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. In order to discuss the revenge issue of this book let us begin by a brief summery of the story. Edmond Dantes, a young sailor, gets a reward to be a Captain of a ship, but unfortunately four men arranged that he will be imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. The four men are Danglars, Villefort, Fernand Mondego, and Caderousse. Dantes has spent fourteen years in prison and then he escaped with a friend that taught him many things and gave him a map to a treasure. The friend (Abbe) died, and when Dantes finds the treasure he becomes rich and famous and is known as The Count Of Monte Cristo. During all of this period he didnt stop thinking about revenging his enemy. He just waited for the perfect time and now it came. His mission is to revenge the people who imprisoned him and help the people who helped him. The Count Of Monte Cristos opinion about revenge and death is that people who made other people suffer for a long long time should not die quick, in other words you dont just kill them, you torture them so that they will die slowly and painfully. Dantes wants them to be miserable and give them a hard time for a long period of time just like he suffered for a long time in jail. That is why he did not hire anyone to kill his enemies or kill them himself. This is proven in the following quote that The Count Of Monte Cristo said: If a man has tortured and killed your father, your mother, your sweetheart, one of those beings who leave an eternal emptiness and a perpetually bleeding wound when they are torn from your heartdo you think  society has given you sufficient reparation because the man who made you undergo long years of mental and emotional suffering has undergone a few seconds of physical pain? For slow, profound, infinite, and eternal suffering. Id try to avenge myself by inflicting similar suffering-an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. This last sentence in the quote, is a sentence from the bible and I think that by telling us this, the author wants to show us that even in old time, in a book that suppose to teach us about life, revenge was taken and was not immoral. This sentence also serves as well as a justification for him to carry out his revenge plans. Monte Cristo was very smart. He looked for the weak points of each person of whom he wanted to take revenge of, and there he hit. He learned a lot about his enemies after he escaped from prison. For example we know that Danglars loves money, so Monte Cristo arranged for him to have no money, he destroyed him financially. Another example is Fernand Mondegos case. After Fernand reaches a high position and became Count de Morcerf, Monte Cristo told the public that Morcerf is a traitor, and by this act he wrecked him socially. We also learned from the story, about Morcerfs love and devotion to his family. This was another target for Monte Cristo and he succeeded in separating him from his family. Fernand was so miserable that he committed suicide. Villffort, for my opinion is the most egoist person I have ever heard of (even though he is fictional). He would do anything and sacrifice anyone to his desire. One Quote in the book even stated so: I would sacrifice anything to my ambition, even my own father. Because of his political craving, Villfort was eager to have an innocent man imprisoned for a whole life time. I think that in this case revenge is very morally justified, because for a man such as Villefort, who was willing to put an innocent man in prison, then revenge is very morally justified. Danglars framed Dantes (wrote the letters), because he was envy and jealous at him because he gets the reward to be the captain of the Pharon (ship), and also at his spirit and self confidence Dantes had. It is natural selection, where nature can perform tiny to mass sporadic experiments on its organisms, and the results can be interesting from extinction to significant changes within a species. Human beings are no exception to biological evolution. Like other organisms around the world, humans have significantly changed overtime and have developed all sorts of diverse characteristics. One noticeable characteristic of human beings is the variation of skin color. Skin color has been used to identify, classify, and verify the variation that exists in the human population around the world. How did such a distinct variation arise and how did it play into adaptation? I’ve often heard that â€Å"humans came from monkeys,† or something similar. It is true that humans’ ancestors were primates, who first resided in warm and sunny Africa; they had similar features to today’s apes, such as a hairy body. The purpose of the vast amount of hair was to protect the body from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and to prevent overheating, mainly by acting as a barrier for the skin underneath the hair (Jablonski, 598). Some parts of the body such as palms were not covered with hair, but with sweat glands. Sweat glands allowed the body to cool off via evaporation at the surface of the skin; sweat glands were more efficient at thermoregulation. Overtime, early humans with a high amount of sweat glands were selected for since they had the best method at the time to keep themselves cool in warm environments (Kirchweger). This meant that overtime, humans lost most of their hair on their bodies, leaving their skin exposed. Sweat gland s were going to help the body to cool down, but they couldn’t protect the skin from harmful UV rays. This is where melanin worked its magic, and it’s the reason for the diversity in skin color today. Melanin helps reduce the absorption of wavelengths into the skin (Chaplin, Jablonski, 59).
