Science Explains Why Rotten Eggs Float
Science Explains Why Rotten Eggs Float One of the ways to tell whether an egg is rotten or still good is to use the flotation test. To perform the test, you place the egg in a glass of water. Fresh eggs typically rest at the bottom of the glass. An egg that sinks but rests with the large end facing up may be a bit older but is still fine for cooking and eating. If the egg floats, its old and may be rotten. You can test this for yourself, although to be scientific about it, youll need to crack open the egg to observe its appearance and smell it to be certain eggs are good or bad (trust me, youll know the bad ones). Youll find the test is fairly accurate. So, you may be wondering why the bad eggs float. Why Bad Eggs Float Fresh eggs sink because the egg yolk, egg white, and gases have enough mass that the density of the egg is greater than the density of water. Density is the mass per unit of volume. Basically, a fresh egg is heavier than water. When an egg starts to go off decomposition occurs. Decomposition gives off gases. As more of the egg decomposes, more of its mass is converted to gases. A gas bubble forms inside the egg so an older egg floats on its end. However, eggs are porous, so some of the gas escapes through the eggshell and is lost to the atmosphere. Although gases are light, they do have mass and affect the density of the egg. When enough gas is lost, the density of the egg is less than that of water and the egg floats. Its a common misconception that rotten eggs float because they contain more gas. If the inside of an egg rotted and the gas couldnt escape, the mass of the egg would be unchanged. Its density would also be unchanged because the volume of an egg is constant (i.e., eggs dont expand like balloons). Changing matter from the liquid state to the gas state doesnt change the amount of mass! The gas has to leave the egg for it to float. Gas With a Rotten Egg Smell If you crack open a rotten egg, the yolk may be discolored and the white may be cloudy rather than clear. More likely, you wont notice the color because the overwhelming stink of the egg will send you off to go throw up. The smell is from the gas hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The gas is heavier than air, flammable, and toxic.Ã Brown Eggs vs. White Eggs You may be wondering whether it matters if you try the flotation test on brown eggs versus white eggs. The results will be the same. There is no difference between brown eggs and white eggs except for their color, assuming the chickens were fed the same grain. Chickens with white feathers and white earlobes lay white eggs. Brown or red chickens that have red earlobes lay brown eggs. The egg color is controlled by a gene for eggshell color that does not affect the thickness of the shell. There are also chicken eggs with blue shells and some with speckled shells. Again, these are simple color differences that do not affect the structure of the eggshell or the result of the flotation test. Egg Expiration Dates The expiration date on a carton of eggs isnt always a good indicator of whether or not the eggs are still fresh. In the United States, the USDA requires egg expiration dates be no longer than 30 days from the packing date. Unrefrigerated eggs may not make it the full month before going off. Refrigerated eggs are more likely to dry up than go bad. The pores of egg shells are small enough bacteria arent going to enter the egg and start reproducing. However, some eggs naturally contain a small number of bacteria, which are more likely to grow in a warmer, more favorable environment. Its worth noting the rotten egg smell isnt just from bacterial decomposition of an egg. Over time, the egg yolk and egg white become more alkaline. This occurs because eggs contain carbon dioxide in the form of carbonic acid. Carbonic acid slowly escapes the egg as carbon dioxide gas that passes through the pores in the shell. As the egg becomes more alkaline, the sulfur in the egg becomes better able to react with hydrogen to form hydrogen sulfide gas. This chemical process occurs more rapidly at room temperature than at cooler temperatures. Another Way to Tell If an Egg Is Bad If you dont have a glass of water handy, you can test an egg for freshness by holding it up to your ear, shaking it, and listening. A fresh egg shouldnt make much sound. An older egg will slosh around more because the gas pocket is larger (giving it room to move) and the egg has lost some cohesion.

Top 9 Practical Hacks That Will Help You Get a Job Via LinkedIn
Top 9 Practical Hacks That Will Help You Get a Job Via LinkedIn You hear it from all of your job search experts: leverage your LinkedIn profile! Build your network for job search success! And those are absolutely true- these days, LinkedIn is a necessary tool for any job hunt. But the question is, how do you turn your LinkedIn profile into a lean, mean, opportunity-generating machine? Letââ¬â¢s look at 9 LinkedIn profile hacks that can boost your job search like crazy.1. Bulk Up Your Profileââ¬Å"Fill in your profileâ⬠may seem like a no-brainer, but youââ¬â¢d be surprised how many people just fill in the basic outlines, thinking theyââ¬â¢ll go back later and do the rest, and never quite get around to it. Meanwhile, recruiters and hiring managers are searching LinkedIn, and you want your name to pop up for tailor-made opportunities.Make sure youââ¬â¢re including these elements in your profile, at a bare minimum:A Professional PicPick a headshot thatââ¬â¢s flattering, and professional enough that you wouldnââ¬â¢t mind havin g your mom, your boss, or the HR rep at your dream company see it. Yes, your pet is awesome, but your selfie with Mr. Fluffypants the iguana is better-suited to your (private) Facebook page. If you can, get a professional photographer (or at least your cousin whoââ¬â¢s perpetually trying to get that photography business off the ground) to take your picture.A 1-2 Sentence Mission StatementThis is your elevator pitch. Itââ¬â¢s a quick summary of your professional identity/brand. Be creative- donââ¬â¢t just recycle your job title. You want it to be short, sweet, and chock full of keywords that are important to your industry.Your Personalized URLAll LinkedIn users get a generic URL. But did you know that you can also get one thatââ¬â¢s shorter and more personalized? While youââ¬â¢re editing your profile, select the Edit link next to your public profile, and youââ¬â¢ll have the option to select a new URL. Again, keep it professional, and use your name. And if you happen to have a common name, keep the variation as simple as you can. This is not the spot to add creative words like ââ¬Å"ninjaâ⬠or ââ¬Å"rockstar.â⬠Your Job HistoryThis is important for two reasons: a) your LinkedIn profile is like a living, breathing resume that you can update as often as you want; and b) LinkedIn uses the data in your profile to forge links with companies and other users. You want this section to be as up to date and comprehensive as possible, to increase your networking opportunities.Education SummaryLike the job history, your education information can help boost your natural networking opportunities. You can select school, course of study, and any activities you too part in while there. This helps build connections that you might not have been able to get to otherwise. For example, I went to a very large state university, and knew only a small fraction of my graduating class. I also tend to hit ââ¬Å"deleteâ⬠automatically on alumni bulletins in my inbox. But via LinkedIn, Iââ¬â¢ve gotten more insight into classmates I never even knew existed, and can see how our careers fit together, even if we never crossed paths back on campus.Special SkillsThis is a great place to showcase skills that youââ¬â¢ve picked up along the way, even if you donââ¬â¢t use them in your current position. This section also allows your connections to weigh in and ââ¬Å"endorseâ⬠you, showing how awesome you are at said skills.ExperienceThis is the longer version of your headline, including context information that you want potential employers to see. You donââ¬â¢t need to go into every responsibility youââ¬â¢ve had at every job, but you have 2000 characters to create a pretty solid collection of your greatest hits.Your profile should look and read professional, but that doesnââ¬â¢t mean you canââ¬â¢t let your personality shine through. Witty and clever is good- but again, donââ¬â¢t go overboard. You want someone to be a ble to ââ¬Å"getâ⬠you at a glance, not just your summary of accomplishments.2. Get InvolvedOnce youââ¬â¢ve set up your profile, donââ¬â¢t just walk away and wait for people and opportunities to come to you. Be a good community member- that means looking for connections, endorsing others, and interacting with others as much as possible on the platform. It shows that youââ¬â¢re engaged and personable. If you join groups in LinkedIn, that lets you send messages directly to second- and third-degree connections, so this is a very useful tool to have.3. Know What to Leave OutSpambots love public social media profiles, so donââ¬â¢t post your personal email address in any of the public fields unless you want to be weeding out weird spam messages for the rest of eternity. Anyone who reads your profile and wants to get in touch via the LinkedIn platform can do it without having MeMyselfAndI95@hotmail.com in the headline. You want your LinkedIn profile to be complete, but you donââ¬â¢t need to go overboard.Your LinkedIn profile doesnââ¬â¢t have to march in lockstep with your other profiles and job search materials. For example, your resume and your LinkedIn profile should be a bit different.4. Build Your Rep In Your FieldWhile youââ¬â¢re off being a good LinkedIn citizen and recommending people in your network, also work on answering questions in your field (assuming you know the answers- donââ¬â¢t make stuff up just for the sake of getting your name out there, because you also donââ¬â¢t want to undermine your professional credibility). Answering questions helps get your name out in your industryââ¬â¢s circles. And who knows- maybe something you post will go LinkedIn viral, and youââ¬â¢ll gain exposure to people in your field that you wouldnââ¬â¢t otherwise have been able to reach.5. Keep It CurrentUpdate your status daily, if you can- or at the very least, a few times a week. The key to LinkedIn success is engaging with the plat form as much as you can, so that youââ¬â¢re maximizing your information and your connections. When you update, donââ¬â¢t default to things like ââ¬Å"here are my thoughts on this political thing,â⬠or ââ¬Å"hereââ¬â¢s what Iââ¬â¢m doing for dinner tonight.â⬠Post an update thatââ¬â¢s relevant to your work or your skills, so that your target market sees youââ¬â¢re committed to your professional brand. For example: ââ¬Å"Just attended a great webinar on productivity, and am excited to try out Steveââ¬â¢s 4 Steps to Productive Greatness.â⬠6. Use KeywordsThis is especially helpful in your ââ¬Å"Skillsâ⬠section. If your industry has a very specific set of skills, make sure you list them- that is, if you actually have them. It would be pretty easy to disprove that youââ¬â¢re not fluent in Italian and Swahili, no matter what your LinkedIn profile says. If youââ¬â¢re looking for a job in social media, make sure youââ¬â¢re listing all th e platforms youââ¬â¢re familiar with, and keep the section updated as new ones come out.7. Work Your LinkedIn Profile Into Your Application PackageLinkedIn has the potential to be a more dynamic tool than, say, your resume. Once you hit ââ¬Å"sendâ⬠on your resume or print it out for an interview, thatââ¬â¢s it. No changes for this particular job application. But if you include your LinkedIn profile URL (remember that personalized URL we talked about?) with your contact info on your resume header, then your reader can go and find out all the wonderful extra information about you, your experience, and your skills beyond what fits in the short-and-sweet resume version.8. Spy On YourselfIf you use the LinkedIn app, you can search anonymously, but still see whoââ¬â¢s been reading your profile. So if you can see that someone from XYZ company was interested in your profile, you can add some custom keywords, skills, or information to better appeal.9. Save Your SearchesLinked In has a ââ¬Å"save searchesâ⬠function, which can help you keep track of specific job keywords or listings that youââ¬â¢re interested in seeing. You can also set up alerts that let you know when these keywords pop up, so that youââ¬â¢re not obsessively reviewing your searches all the time (unless, of course, you want to).No matter how you look at it, LinkedIn has the potential to be an MVP in your job search. You get to decide how much (or how little) you want to interact with it, but the more you use it to your advantage, the more rewards youââ¬â¢ll get from the platform and the people and companies who rely on it to find great people for open jobs. Good luck, and happy linking!

Business Environment and Society Buyer Behaviour Essay
Business Environment and Society Buyer Behaviour - Essay Example The possessions that we have to tell much about us and the psychology behind consumer behavior hence should be central to understanding consumer behavior. This is mostly because people use possessions to define themselves or create their identities (extended self) especially in contemporary society based on materialism. As such, we are what we have and possessions are an extension of our selves. This has implication for marketers as they should strive to understand the value attached to possessions by consumers in order to develop effective marketing strategies. There are many theories put forward to explain customer behavior. Economic theory views the customer as a rational and self-interested decision maker hence consumes to maximize utility. The theory thus concentrates on the buying action. The psychodynamic approach is attributed to Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) and posits that the instinctive forces of Id, Ego, and Superego are drivers of behavior. The behaviorist theory views beha vior as being driven by external forces or events. The cognitive theory attributes behavior to information processing in oneââ¬â¢s mind while humanistic theory stresses the role of emotions in consumer behavior. This essay will utilize the theories of consumer behavior to discuss the concept of extended self and its effects on consumer purchasing behavior. The idea of extended self is based on the fact that we are what we have; that is, we define ourselves based on the things that we possess. Belk (1988, 139) argues that ââ¬Å"our possessions are a major contributor to and reflection of our identities.â⬠He came up with this conclusion after collecting a variety of evidence and regarded it as the ââ¬Ëextended self.ââ¬â¢ The major categories of extended self according to Belk are a body, internal processes, ideas, experiences and those persons, places and things to which one feels attached.Ã

Attack Prevention Article Evaluation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Attack Prevention Article Evaluation - Essay Example Before attempting to observe the issue, it is essential to understand the focal point of user domain itself. This is a huge focal point in managing security in IT networks. In essence, user domain is definedà as set of objects that allow a user to have controls and permissions. In essence, user domains can overlap. Another element of user domains is the fact that is allows users to possess segregation of duties. Segregation of duties allows users to have separate domains and grant permissions. User domains can range from simple user access accounts or it can be a specific domain such as sales, marketing, and managers. à Unlike traditional firewallsà that only guard the parameters of the traditional IT infrastructure, virtualizationà firewallsà provide comprehensive security measures that monitor activity within clients. If one machine is to be attacked by a host, the other machine automatically copies data in almost dynamic time that the user is not aware of the situation. Clearly, that is a huge benefit for organizations since it allows them to have a safety net in case of an attack. The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a critical precautionary tool that monitors the network through monitoring packets that are passed within users. The first and easiest application of virtualization for security purposes is known as application isolation. This is a huge component towards the security aspect because it allows IT managers to gain leverage over application stability and application allocation. One of the worst vulnerabilities for user domains are insider attacks. Insider attacks occur. For instance, denial of service and spoofing are one the most common themes that occur. The problem is the fact that intercepting authentication or other sensitive information can be executed with the current WAN technology since it utilizes the traditional TCP/IP in user domains. A

After the stars were identified, they were interviewed in-depth about how they went about their work and, specifically, what they did to be more productive. Using these insights, the ITC team designed an innovative hands-on transformational leadership, which the star performers then delivered to a subset of their peers. The results were immediate and impressive. Participants reported a quick 10 percent productivity improvement, rising to 25 percent a year later. There were equally striking gains in managers evaluations of their ability to spot problems, conduct high quality work, keep their bosses informed, work across organizational boundaries, and attend to customer and competitive needs. People manages the system and squeeze every last drop of efficiency out of it, Even at the cost of people whose efforts made the success of work It does not take much to see the cost of all of this, whenever we will take a look around us , we can see the apathy, reluctance to take personal responsibility for the outcomes of our actions, be it at home, at the office or in the world at large. This system can only change if we change our focus, and be more upfront with some of the critical issues that are around us. It is so easy to play small and not contribute what you are here to give. Everyone have their own unique way of thinking to bring changes, that differs from other persons views and until we will not utilize this developing and giving of this unique gift, the world will not have that as a transformational tool. Being a tra nsformational leader means many things, and from the academic perspective, there are 4 specific areas by which you can be identified by others. 1. Charismatic Leadership, or Idealized Influence. When you are a Transformational leader, who will be the ideal of your followers and they will respect and admire you. This gives you a unique and powerful ability to be congruent with who you are in the work that you do. It transforms into a power that is unheard of, let alone experienced by most people in this world. 2.How to deal with Fear in Transformational Leadership Anyone who engaged in Transformational Leadership will experience fear at one or other point. Being human being, it is very natural to feel this when someone is engaged in a large or important undertaking, may be commercial, private or in the support of others and will create some kind of discouragement in mind. One of the reason for transformational Leaders to experience fear may be due to their position, Fear of failure, the unknown, uncertainty of self can occur, as the leader transforms them self through the process of being a Transformational Leader. Transformational Leadership is not to be at the top, and shouting the orders down to those who are below you. He is the one who is just a few steps ahead and finding the way together with the group. Any leader whenever engaged to fulfill large goals or purposes , he will feel fear on the journey. I am not enough, is a deep seated and common false belief and position that a scared, reactive mind may take on the journey, as we learn t o let go of ourselves, and learn to trust the process. We all can face fear if we have the courage to look at it. So the question for the leader of transformation is: How can I overcome my fear, and continue towards the goal? Just Do It! may be one option, or Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway may be another and the best way to remember what FEAR really is: F- False E Expectations A Appearing R Real So, the Transformational Leadership is about making the right choice, so that you will be full of confidence to overcome any kind of fear in the path of success and leading others to engage and commit to their own process, as you did. 3.The Benefits of Transformational Leadership Whenever In an organisation, the cost values get compared between hiring new employees and retaining old ones, later will be always prove beneficial.Poor cultural fit or a leader, who is not really the empowering type, perhaps more the transactional type becomes the reason for the organizations to loose their old employees which finally results in high turnover in organisations costs, that could only be reduced through the use of Transformational leadership. Transformational leadership has the potential to change others, and to realize them their full potential. So, they will both thank you and will contribute to your organization to their best level, or perhaps they will move on to a more fitting environment. Either way, you win. Better to have a high performing team member that is happy, or a space to replace with someone more suitable. Transformational leadership practices are helpful in fostering organizational improvement and effectiveness such as organisational learning; in par ticular, vision building, individual support, intellectual stimulation, modelling, culture building and holding high performance expectations. People that are led by a transformational leader have a role model to respect, admire and follow. This creates a high level of attachment between leaders and followers, so allowing the flow of information and trust. A strong common vision can be communicated through this relationship. When working with a transformational leader, you would feel engaged, enthusiastic and challenged in a way that would be personal and appropriate for your specific requirements. The vision and goals of the organization or group would be clearly communicated and there would be a tangible commitment to them by the leader. By actively stimulating others, transformational leaders are creative hubs for new ways of doing things, leading others to be more creative, productive and cohesive within in the organization. The potential for individual development and fulfillin g the needs of the individual are high. Never the less, it seems that there are many powerful benefits for an organization that encourages the use of Transformational Leadership. 4.The Potential of Transformational Leadership Transformational Leadership exists in the top level in the evolution of leadership. It is the highest manifestation of the art of leadership, and one of the most challenging to live. As humans we evolve always therefore, it is unlike that transformational leadership will be the last level of development, but it certainly give us hope in potentially addressing some of the issues that the human race are facing as individuals, groups and collective as a whole. Business, one of the oldest of human behaviors, after many decades and centuries of development, has lead us to spend whole time in looking at a computer screens or interacting with some form of electronic device instead to interact with other humans. No doubt, technology has made our life luxurious , comfortable and exceptionally fast but all this is at the expense of our humanity.Being a leader, one could lead himself and others to achieve the goals and outcomes that we or our collective group have set. This may include interfac ing with technology, but behind that we are still very much human beings. In a technological age, we are under threat of losing our humanity, and at the same time advancing it more powerfully that ever before. Transactional leadership, the definition of the outcome and the management of it, serves a purpose, and is reasonably easy to learn. The people you lead may do what you say, as the dictator dictates, yet how can you find a way to really genuinely inspire them to perform at a level far beyond the normal levels? Transformational leadership offers that possibility. As a transformational leader, we are called to be the highest expression of humanity at this time, and so lead ourselves and others towards a new destiny that awaits us. A way of being that inspires our most noble selves, to be of service, as an act of self mastery. To consider and hold ourselves and others in a way that is empowering, uplifting and inspiring. To engage each person we interact with, with honour and res pect. To be this and all the other ways of being that a transformational leader is, is a commitment to something far greater than just ourselves. It is more that just basic survival, acceptance and group recognition. It is the expression of our individual potential, or self actualisation. In some ways it is a calling, and requires an investment in you and in others, with no promise of a return, and a willingness to trust that there is something in humanity that has the potential to respond with in a positive, upward overall trend the potential for each of us to lift each other into a new level of understanding, relationships and consciousness. Like evolution, it is a journey of uncertainty. Never knowing where exactly we will end up, yet a willingness to be present for what is happening now, and making powerful choices about our future from there. To an Athlete Dying Young Poetry Analysis
Sydney Walcher Instructor, Lisa Ward English 1213 8 April 2013 To an Athlete Dying Young A. E. Housman was a poet born in 1859 who became very successful during his lifetime. ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠represents the theme of glory is fleeting by illustrating the point that if a successful athlete dies young, they will not have to worry about their glory of victory fading. They can rest in peace knowing they will be remembered at their athletic peak when they were successful and victorious. They will not have to go through the pain of watching their fame disappear or whither out with time. In this poetic masterpiece, Housman pulls together figurative language, sound devices, and structure to illustrate that glory is fleeting through a majestic poem that will be remembered for many years. Figurative language consists of many different devices including metaphors and similes which are often used in poetry like ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Young. â⬠Metaphors compare unli ke things but does not use like or as, the comparison is implied. Some metaphors that stick out in ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠are the phrase ââ¬Å"stiller townâ⬠which is a metaphor for a cemetery and the line ââ¬Å"Eyes the shady night has shutâ⬠which metaphorically states that someone has died. Another device often used in Housmanââ¬â¢s poem is similes, which compare unlike things while using like or as to make a direct comparison. Some examples like ââ¬Å"It withers quicker than the roseâ⬠use than instead of the like or as which is commonly used for similes. Most, if not all, similes in this poem use this method. When contradictory terms are used consecutively they are called an oxymoron. The only line in this poem sticks out as an oxymoron is ââ¬Å"silence sounds. â⬠Poems are usually known for rhyming, but not all do. Many poems use other sound devices such as alliteration and rhyme. ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠uses both of th ese devices throughout the poem. Alliteration is the similarity of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or consecutive words. One example of alliteration is ââ¬Å"The fleet foot on the ill of shadeâ⬠because of both fleet and foot and sill and shade. Another example is ââ¬Å"Today, the road all runners comeâ⬠because of road and runner. Rhyme is similarity of sound between words or the endings of words when used at the end of a line of poetry. The rhyme scheme of ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠is ABAB. This means that the last word of every two lines rhymes. For example, ââ¬Å"So set, before its echoes fade,/The fleet foot on the sill of shade,/And hold to the lintel up/The still-defended challenge cup. This is an excellent demonstration of the ABAB rhyme scheme because ââ¬Å"fadeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"shadeâ⬠rhymes, as does ââ¬Å"upâ⬠and ââ¬Å"cup. â⬠In ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Young,â⬠Housman uses iambic tetrameter, w hich refers to a line that is four iambic feet long, to create a lyric poem that can otherwise be known as an elegy since it praises an athlete that died young. Iambic tetrameter affects the beat of the words and how they flow together gracefully. Iambic tetrameter consists of a stressed syllable followed by an unstressed syllable. Most lines in these poems tend to have eight syllables. However, lines thirteen and fourteen, ââ¬Å"Eyes the shady night has shut/Cannot see the record cut,â⬠stray from iambic tetrameter to trochaic tetrameter, one stressed syllable plus one unstressed syllable in four feet, with catalexis, which is an incomplete foot at the end of a line. The literary masterpiece, ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Young,â⬠uses figurative language, sound devices, and structure to illustrate a poem that demonstrates the fact that glory is fleeting. The figurative language is used to create imagery, or to provide visual descriptions to create images in oneââ¬â¢s hea d.Figurative language paints a picture with words to help readers see the story. It also creates many different perspectives based on the readers and their perspectives. The sound devices help create lines and rhythms that gracefully flow off the readerââ¬â¢s tongue. Structure is what incorporates the rhythms and other devices into a pattern that binds the lines of a poem into a small story with a moral that can be told to many different generations. ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠is a magnificent example of a lyric or an elegy that will be told for years to come.

Channel Firing Poem Analysis Essay - 1497 Words
Thomas Hardys ââ¬Å"Channel Firingâ⬠is a poem written in 1914, four months prior to the start of World War 1. This historical context is crucial to understanding the poem as it expresses the dark and sorrowful foreshadowing of the months before the war, creating feelings of tension, turmoil and unrest. There were, at the time, many young men who did not share the common unease, more so tension turned to excitement, turmoil to eagerness and unrest to anticipation. The split between society in the months leading up to the war is portrayed in Hardys poem. For example, the anonymous character Hardy embodies in this poem states how he ââ¬Å"thought it was judgement dayâ⬠as he hears gunfire, quite clearly depicting his fear and others around him as heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This interpretation could be seen to blame the church, as does the aforementioned point made stating how men fight and die in the name of God, making a direct relation between religion and death. In the third stanza, I believe Hardy uses an interesting and peculiar image of a drooling glebe cow. This image, in my opinion, could either show how this creature is unaffected by the turmoil of war, perhaps showing how mankinds wars have little impact on the rest of the world. It could also be a criticism towards the church. Throughout Hardys other poetry he questions either the motivations or the very existence of God, therefore we could assume that the image given through the quote, ââ¬Å"the glebe cow drooledâ⬠could indeed be critical towards the Church or God. However, clearly in this instance Hardy is not necessarily doubting Gods existence as he introduces him as a character. He explains to the risen dead that it is not ââ¬Å"Judgement Dayâ⬠, merely the beginning of another war, comparing it to the wars in which they died, describing it as ââ¬Å"the world as it used to beâ⬠. This description brands humanity as a race born to fight, nothing more. The usage of the quote ââ¬Å"All nations striving strong to make Red war yet redderâ⬠show how this could be viewed as anShow MoreRelatedStrategy Safari by Mintzberg71628 Words à |à 287 PagesSupply Changesââ¬âImpacting production processes, investment requirements Changes in number of suppliersââ¬âImpacting costs, availability 6.
